‘What Is a Constitution? Reading Toward a Problem’: Reading Seminar 1
July 7, 2025 @ 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm
CISRUL will lead a series of reading seminars under the title: What Is a Constitution? Reading Toward a Problem. The aim is to create space for thinking about what constitutions do, how they take shape, and how we come to know them.
The first seminar will take place on Monday 7 July at 3 pm in Taylor A08 or on Teams. It will serve as an introduction to the topic, especially for those coming from outside Law. We will read 2 short texts:
- Günther Frankeberg (2006): Chapter 1 “Constitutions: between magic and deceit” https://www.elgaronline.com/monochap/9781782548973/08_chapter1.xhtml
- Jessie Allen (2007) “Law as Magic: A Theory of Adjudication”https://scholarship.law.pitt.edu/fac_articles/14/
Later sessions may take up topics such as environmental constitutionalism.
