Sam McReavy is a third year PhD candidate at the University of Aberdeen. Over the last four years, he has focused on urban spatial theory and Science Fiction as a pedagogical tool in the work of Henri Lefebvre. He has degrees from the Universities of St Andrews and Glasgow in English, Modern History, and Critical Theory.
Utilising an interdisciplinary framework encompassing Literary, Urban, and Gender Studies, as well as historical, economic, and spatial theory, his project is committed to Lefebvre’s “synthesis” of totalising interdisciplinary research. He has also written on historical Marxian guerilla revolt, the volunteer literature of the Spanish Civil War, urban social movements, and has upcoming publications on Science Fiction and class struggle.
He has delivered seminars on the city in academia, and presentations on improving urban planning, equitable divisions of city-space, and imagining better urban futures through literature. Having previously worked as a copywriter, brand strategist, research assistant, and now, as a course tutor, Sam has continued to work towards this goal of synthesising interdisciplinary practice with pedagogical theory.
